Therizinosaurus

The scythe lizard with meter-long finger claws/Dinosaurs & Extinct Animals

Therizinosaurus cheloniformis lived about 70 million years ago in Late Cretaceous Mongolia. Its most striking feature was its enormous hand claws, the longest of any known animal at up to 1 meter in length. Despite its fearsome appearance, Therizinosaurus was likely an herbivore that used its claws to pull down branches. The animal stood about 5 meters tall and weighed roughly 5,000 kg. When first discovered, its claws were so unusual that scientists initially thought they belonged to a giant turtle.
