Tasmanian Tiger (Thylacine)

A marsupial carnivore that looked like a striped wolf/Dinosaurs & Extinct Animals

The thylacine (Thylacinus cynocephalus) was the largest known carnivorous marsupial of modern times. It had a body length of about 1 meter with a stiff tail adding another 50 cm, and weighed roughly 30 kg. Despite its dog-like appearance, it was more closely related to kangaroos than to wolves. The species once ranged across mainland Australia but was confined to Tasmania by the time of European settlement. The last known individual, Benjamin, died at Hobart Zoo on September 7, 1936.
