Hoba Meteorite

The largest known meteorite still lying where it fell/Geology & Minerals

The Hoba meteorite in Namibia is the largest known intact meteorite on Earth, estimated to have fallen about 80,000 years ago. It measures about 2.7 m by 2.7 m by 0.9 m and weighs approximately 60 tonnes. Composed of 84% iron and 16% nickel, it has never been moved from its landing site. The meteorite left no visible impact crater, likely because its flat shape and the atmosphere slowed it enough to land at a relatively low terminal velocity.
