Granite Block

The workhorse rock beneath continents and inside monuments/Geology & Minerals

Granite is an intrusive igneous rock formed from slowly cooling magma deep within the Earth. A standard quarry block measures about 3 m by 1.5 m by 1.5 m and weighs roughly 18 tonnes. Granite has a compressive strength of about 200 megapascals, making it one of the strongest commonly available building stones. The pyramids of Giza, Mount Rushmore, and countless government buildings rely on granite for durability.
