Giant Ground Sloth (Megatherium)

A 6-meter herbivore that could stand on two legs/Dinosaurs & Extinct Animals

Megatherium americanum was one of the largest land mammals ever, living from about 5 million to 10,000 years ago in South America. Standing upright on its hind legs and tail, it reached about 6 meters tall and weighed roughly 4,000 kg. Unlike modern tree sloths, it lived on the ground and used its massive curved claws (up to 50 cm long) to dig and pull down tree branches. Charles Darwin collected Megatherium fossils during the voyage of the Beagle.
