A chicken-sized predator from the Late Jurassic/Dinosaurs & Extinct Animals
Compsognathus longipes was one of the smallest known non-avian dinosaurs, measuring about 1 meter in length and weighing roughly 3 kg. It lived about 150 million years ago in what is now Europe. This agile bipedal predator fed on small lizards and insects, as confirmed by fossilized stomach contents. For over a century after its discovery in 1859, it was considered the smallest known dinosaur, a title it has since lost to several feathered species from China.
