Watt Steam Engine

The engine that powered the Industrial Revolution/Inventions & Discoveries

James Watt's improved steam engine, patented in 1769, transformed manufacturing, mining, and transportation. By adding a separate condenser, Watt reduced fuel consumption by about 75% compared to Newcomen's earlier design. A typical Boulton and Watt engine produced around 10 horsepower and stood roughly 3 meters tall. The unit of power, the watt, is named in his honor.
