A standard watermelon weighs about 9 kg and is 92% water by weight, making it essentially a spheroid water balloon with seeds. A typical watermelon is about 40 cm long. It originated in Africa and was cultivated in ancient Egypt. Every part of the watermelon is edible, including the seeds and rind. China produces about 60% of the world's watermelons.
