War Elephant (Armored)

The ancient world's living tank, from Carthage to Mughal India/Historical

Armored war elephants were used across Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa from antiquity through the 18th century. A large Asian elephant in full battle armor stood about 3 m at the shoulder, measured 6 m in length, and weighed up to 6,000 kg including armor and howdah (fighting platform). The armor consisted of iron or leather plates protecting the head, trunk, and flanks. Hannibal's crossing of the Alps with 37 war elephants in 218 BC remains one of military history's most legendary feats.
