Vostok 1 carried Yuri Gagarin on the first human spaceflight on April 12, 1961. The mission lasted 108 minutes and completed one orbit of Earth. The spherical descent module separated from the instrument module before re-entry, and Gagarin ejected and parachuted to the ground.
