The brilliant blue-white jewel of the summer sky/Stars
Vega is the fifth brightest star in the night sky and was once the North Star about 12,000 years ago. It spins so fast that it bulges noticeably at its equator, completing a full rotation in just 12.5 hours compared to the Sun's leisurely 25 days. Vega was also the first star other than the Sun to be photographed and the first to have its spectrum recorded.
