IBM Selectric Typewriter

The golf ball that revolutionized office typing/Technology

The IBM Selectric, introduced in 1961, replaced the traditional typebar mechanism with a rotating and tilting 'golf ball' type element that could type at up to 14.8 characters per second without jamming. It weighed about 15 kg and became the standard office typewriter for two decades. Over 13 million Selectrics were sold. Its proportional spacing and interchangeable type elements made it the word processor before word processors existed.
