Toucan

A tropical bird whose beak is a third of its total length/Small Animals

Toucans are members of the family Ramphastidae, instantly recognizable by their enormous, colorful bills. The toco toucan's bill can reach 20 cm in length, nearly a third of the bird's total body length. Despite its size, the bill is surprisingly lightweight, made of a honeycomb of keratin supported by thin bone struts. The bill helps regulate body temperature by adjusting blood flow. Toucans are found in Central and South American tropical forests, where they nest in tree hollows and eat mostly fruit.
