Total Road Length Worldwide

Over 64 million km of roads, enough to stretch to Mars and back 80 times/Collective & Conceptual

The total length of roads on Earth is estimated at approximately 64.3 million kilometers, enough to wrap around the equator over 1,600 times or to stretch from Earth to Mars and back about 80 times at closest approach. The United States has the longest road network at about 6.7 million km, followed by India with 6.4 million km and China with 5.3 million km. Only about 60% of the world's roads are paved. The global road network has roughly doubled since 1970, with most of the growth in developing countries. Roads cover an estimated 0.4% of the Earth's total land surface, or about 600,000 square kilometers, an area slightly larger than France.
