Tokyo Metro System

The world's busiest subway system, moving 8.7 million riders daily/Infrastructure

The Tokyo Metro system (combining Tokyo Metro and Toei Subway) consists of 13 lines with 286 stations spanning 304 kilometers of track beneath one of the world's most densely populated cities. On an average weekday, it carries roughly 8.7 million passengers, making it one of the busiest rapid transit systems on Earth. Trains during rush hour run at intervals of just 2 minutes. Professional 'pushers' (oshiya) are stationed at busy platforms to help squeeze passengers into packed cars. The first line opened in 1927 between Asakusa and Ueno.
