Tallest Sandcastle

A 19.55-meter tower of sand, taller than a six-story building/Human Records & Feats

The world record for the tallest sandcastle is 19.55 meters (64 feet 1.7 inches), built by Skulptura Projects GmbH in Blokhus, Denmark, in July 2021. The structure used about 4,860 tonnes of sand and took a team of 30 sculptors approximately three weeks to complete. Professional sandcastle builders use a carefully controlled ratio of sand to water (roughly 8:1 by volume) to achieve the maximum structural integrity. The sand is first packed using forms and heavy tamping, then carved from the top down. A coating of diluted wood glue mixed with water is applied to the surface to protect against wind erosion. The structural limit of a sandcastle depends on the grain size, moisture content, and the angle of repose of the sand.
