Tallest Human Tower (Castells)
The Catalan tradition of building towers out of people/Human Records & Feats
Castells are human towers built by groups called colles in Catalonia, Spain, a tradition dating back to the 18th century and recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. The tallest castells reach 10 complete levels plus the crowning child (enxaneta), achieving heights of roughly 12 meters. A castell can involve several hundred people: the pinya (base) alone may contain 200 or more members packed tightly to support the weight above. The entire structure is held together by nothing but grip strength, balance, and an apparently Catalan disregard for the laws of structural engineering.
