Stonehenge

A prehistoric mystery of massive standing stones on Salisbury Plain/Ancient Structures

Stonehenge was built in stages over roughly 1,500 years starting around 3000 BCE, and we still argue about exactly why. The largest sarsen stones weigh about 25 tonnes and were transported from Marlborough Downs, about 40 km away. The smaller bluestones came from Wales, some 240 km away, which is a truly absurd distance to carry a rock without a truck.
