Vincent van Gogh painted The Starry Night in June 1889 from his room at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum in Saint-Remy-de-Provence. The painting measures 73.7 cm by 92.1 cm and depicts a turbulent night sky over a sleeping village. Researchers have found that the painting's swirling patterns closely match the mathematical structure of turbulent fluid flow.
