Segway PT

The self-balancing personal transporter that divided opinion/Transportation

The Segway PT (Personal Transporter), invented by Dean Kamen and unveiled in 2001, is a two-wheeled, self-balancing electric vehicle. Using gyroscopes and tilt sensors, it stays upright and moves in response to the rider's shifts in weight. The Segway stands about 1.3 m tall at the handlebars, weighs 47.7 kg, and can travel at up to 20 km/h with a range of about 38 km on a single charge. Despite massive initial hype, it became more of a tourist rental and security patrol vehicle than the transportation revolution it was predicted to be.
