Sea Otter

The cuddliest marine mammal and champion rock user/Deep Sea & Ocean Life

The sea otter (Enhydra lutris) is the smallest marine mammal but has the densest fur of any animal, with up to 150,000 hairs per square centimeter. Unlike other marine mammals, sea otters rely on fur rather than blubber for insulation. They famously float on their backs, using their bellies as dining tables and cracking open shellfish with rocks, making them one of the few non-primate tool users. They eat about 25% of their body weight daily to fuel their high metabolism. They also hold hands while sleeping to avoid drifting apart.
