Samurai Katana

The curved single-edged blade of feudal Japanese warriors/Historical

The katana is the iconic curved sword of the Japanese samurai, developed during the Muromachi period (1336-1573). A standard katana has a blade length (nagasa) of about 60-80 cm, with an overall length including the handle (tsuka) of roughly 100-110 cm. The blade has a distinctive curve (sori) of 1-2 cm and is forged from tamahagane steel through a complex folding process that can involve thousands of layers. A quality katana weighs about 1.1 kg and is designed primarily as a cutting weapon.
