Sagittarius A*

The supermassive black hole at the centre of the Milky Way/Deep Space

Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*) is the supermassive black hole at the centre of our Milky Way galaxy, with a mass of roughly 4.15 million Suns. In 2022, the Event Horizon Telescope collaboration released the first direct image of its shadow. Stars orbit it at tremendous speeds; the star S2 reaches over 7,600 km/s at closest approach.
