Rigel is a blue supergiant star marking the lower-left foot of the constellation Orion. It is one of the most luminous stars in our region of the Milky Way, shining with roughly 120,000 times the luminosity of the Sun. Despite being about 860 light-years away, it is the seventh-brightest star in the night sky.
