Rhine River

Western Europe's great commercial waterway from Alps to North Sea/Rivers

The Rhine flows 1,230 km from the Swiss Alps to the North Sea in the Netherlands, passing through or bordering six countries (Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, Germany, France, and the Netherlands). It is one of the busiest commercial waterways in the world, carrying about 300 million tonnes of cargo annually. The Middle Rhine Valley in Germany, with its castle-crowned cliffs and the legendary Lorelei rock, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Rhine has been a natural border, trade route, and cultural symbol of Europe for millennia.
