Pufferfish, or Tetraodontidae, can inflate their bodies to several times their normal size by gulping water or air, making them nearly impossible to swallow. Most species carry tetrodotoxin, a neurotoxin up to 1,200 times more poisonous than cyanide. Despite this, pufferfish (fugu) is considered a delicacy in Japan, where only licensed chefs may prepare it. There are over 120 species, ranging from the tiny dwarf pufferfish at 2.5 cm to the freshwater Mbu pufferfish at 67 cm.
