Petra — The Treasury

A temple carved from a cliff face that Indiana Jones made famous/Ancient Structures

Al-Khazneh (The Treasury) in Petra, Jordan, was carved directly into the sandstone cliff face by the Nabataean people around the 1st century BCE. Standing 40 meters tall and 25 meters wide, it was likely a royal tomb rather than an actual treasury. The rose-red facade has survived over 2,000 years of desert winds, earthquakes, and flash floods. It became world-famous as the setting for the climax of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
