Passion Fruit
A wrinkly tropical fruit packed with crunchy, aromatic seeds/Food & Drinks
Passion fruit (Passiflora edulis) is a tropical fruit named by Spanish missionaries who saw symbols of the Passion of Christ in the flower's structure: the five petals and five sepals represented the ten faithful apostles, the corona filaments the crown of thorns, the five stamens the five wounds, and the three stigmas the three nails. The fruit has a tough outer rind that wrinkles when ripe, enclosing a fragrant, jelly-like pulp filled with crunchy edible seeds. Each fruit contains about 250 seeds. The purple and yellow varieties are the most common, with the yellow being slightly larger and more acidic.
