Opossum

North America's only marsupial, famous for playing dead/Small Animals

The Virginia opossum is the only marsupial found in North America, carrying its young in a pouch just like kangaroos. When threatened, opossums involuntarily enter a catatonic state called thanatosis, or 'playing possum,' during which they lie motionless, drool, and emit a foul smell from their anal glands. This state can last from a few minutes to several hours. Opossums are remarkably resistant to snake venom and rabies. They have 50 teeth, more than any other North American land mammal, and prehensile tails used for grasping branches.
