Olympic Javelin

A spear optimized for throwing really, really far/Everyday Objects

The men's Olympic javelin is 2.6 to 2.7 meters long and must weigh at least 800 grams. It is one of the oldest field events, dating back to ancient Greece, though the modern javelin was redesigned in 1986 after throws were getting dangerously close to clearing the stadium. The center of gravity was moved forward to make it nose-dive sooner, which is a polite way of saying they nerfed it for safety.
