The 'Killer Mountain' with the tallest mountain face on Earth/Mountains

Nanga Parbat (8,126 meters) is the ninth-highest mountain in the world, located in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan. Its Rupal Face rises 4,600 meters from base to summit, making it the tallest mountain face on Earth. The mountain earned the grim nickname 'Killer Mountain' because of the numerous early expeditions that ended in disaster; 31 climbers died before the first successful ascent by Hermann Buhl on July 3, 1953, in a remarkable solo push without supplemental oxygen. The Rakhiot Face on the north side features an enormous hanging glacier that periodically calves devastating avalanches.
