Mir Space Station

The Soviet orbital outpost that pioneered long-duration spaceflight/Space Missions

Mir operated in low Earth orbit from 1986 to 2001 and was the first modular space station. It held the record for longest continuous human presence in space at 3,644 days. The station was deliberately deorbited over the Pacific Ocean in March 2001.
