Mesa Verde Cliff Palace
The largest cliff dwelling in North America, built by ancestral Puebloans/World Landmarks
Cliff Palace at Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado is the largest cliff dwelling in North America, built by Ancestral Puebloans around 1190-1260 AD. Tucked beneath a massive sandstone overhang, the complex contains 150 rooms and 23 kivas (circular ceremonial rooms). The alcove is about 27 m deep and 18 m high, providing natural shelter from weather. At its peak, it housed approximately 100-120 people. The site was 'rediscovered' by ranchers in 1888 and became one of the first protected archaeological sites in the United States.
