Mekong River
Southeast Asia's lifeline flowing through six countries/Rivers
The Mekong River flows approximately 4,350 km from the Tibetan Plateau through China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. It is the 12th longest river in the world and the longest in Southeast Asia. The Mekong basin supports about 60 million people who depend on it for food, water, and transportation. The Tonle Sap system in Cambodia, connected to the Mekong, is the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia and reverses its flow direction seasonally, a unique hydrological phenomenon.
