Makalu

The world's fifth-highest peak, shaped like a four-sided pyramid/Mountains

Makalu (8,485 meters) is the fifth-highest mountain in the world, located 19 kilometers southeast of Mount Everest on the border of Nepal and Tibet. It is notable for its striking four-sided pyramid shape, considered one of the most beautiful mountain forms among the 8,000-meter peaks. First summited on May 15, 1955, by French climbers Lionel Terray and Jean Couzy, Makalu is regarded as one of the more difficult eight-thousanders due to its steep pitches and knife-edge ridges. Fewer than 400 people have reached its summit, compared to over 6,000 for Everest.
