Little Mermaid Copenhagen

Denmark's most visited and most vandalized bronze icon/Statues & Monuments

The Little Mermaid statue in Copenhagen was unveiled in 1913, inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale. At just 1.25 meters tall, she sits on a rock at the Langelinie promenade and has endured a truly astonishing amount of vandalism, including having her head sawn off twice. Despite all that, she remains Denmark's most famous landmark, proving that resilience is the real fairy tale.
