Leaning Tower of Pisa

The world's most famous construction mistake/Ancient Structures

The Tower of Pisa began leaning during construction in 1173 when the soft ground on one side compressed more than the other. It took 199 years to complete (partly because of wars and partly because nobody knew how to fix the lean). The tower is 56 meters tall on the low side and leans at about 3.97 degrees. Engineering work in the 2000s stabilized it for at least another 200 years.
