Leafy Sea Dragon

A fish disguised as a piece of floating seaweed/Marine Life

The leafy sea dragon (Phycodurus eques) is a marine fish found only along the southern coast of Australia. At about 35 cm long, its body is covered in leaf-shaped appendages that provide almost perfect camouflage among kelp and seaweed. Unlike seahorses, it cannot grasp objects with its tail. Males carry the fertilized eggs on a brood patch under their tails for about 8 weeks. The leafy sea dragon is the marine emblem of South Australia.
