Kodiak Bear
The largest subspecies of brown bear/Large Land Animals
The Kodiak bear (Ursus arctos middendorffi) has been isolated on Alaska's Kodiak Archipelago for about 12,000 years, evolving into the largest subspecies of brown bear on Earth. They rival polar bears for the title of largest land carnivore, though calling them 'carnivore' is generous since they're enthusiastic omnivores who get most of their calories from salmon and berries. About 3,500 of them live on the islands, outnumbered by humans roughly four to one.
