Hawaii's relentlessly active shield volcano/Volcanoes

Kilauea on Hawaii's Big Island is one of the most active volcanoes on Earth, erupting almost continuously from 1983 to 2018. Rather than explosive eruptions, it typically produces rivers of basaltic lava that flow slowly enough that you could outrun them on foot. The 2018 eruption was more dramatic, destroying over 700 homes and adding about 3.5 square kilometers of new land to the island.
