Javelin World Record

Jan Zelezny's 98.48 meter throw that nearly hit 100/Sports

Czech athlete Jan Zelezny set the men's javelin world record of 98.48 meters in 1996, a mark that has stood for decades and may never be broken. The javelin was actually redesigned in 1986 to move the center of gravity forward after throws were getting dangerously long and landing flat, threatening spectators at the far end of the field. At release, the 800-gram javelin leaves the hand at roughly 30 m/s.
