Jackfruit

The largest tree-borne fruit in the world, up to 55 kg on a single stem/Food & Drinks

The jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus) is the largest tree-borne fruit in the world. Individual fruits can weigh up to 55 kg, measure up to 90 cm long, and contain up to 500 edible seeds surrounded by sweet, yellow flesh. Native to the rainforests of India, jackfruit has been cultivated for at least 6,000 years. The unripe fruit has a meat-like texture when cooked, making it increasingly popular as a plant-based meat substitute. A single jackfruit tree can produce 100 to 200 fruits per year. The wood is termite-resistant and valued for furniture, while the tree's latex was traditionally used as glue.
