A4 Paper (Single Sheet)

The 210 x 297 mm rectangle that runs the world/Everyday Objects

A single sheet of A4 paper measures exactly 210 mm by 297 mm, a ratio of 1 to the square root of 2. This elegant ratio means that when you fold or cut an A4 sheet in half, you get two A5 sheets with the same proportions. The standard was first adopted in Germany in 1922 and is now used by every country except the US and Canada. A sheet of 80 gsm A4 weighs exactly 4.989 grams.
