Hope Diamond

The most famous diamond in the world, allegedly cursed/Everyday Objects

The Hope Diamond is a 45.52-carat deep-blue diamond currently housed in the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. Its blue color comes from trace amounts of boron in the crystal lattice. It was originally part of a larger stone brought to France from India in the 17th century and has passed through the hands of kings, merchants, and socialites, many of whom suffered misfortune — hence the legend of its curse. It glows red for several minutes after exposure to ultraviolet light, which is both beautiful and unsettling.
