Goliath Bird-Eating Spider

The world's heaviest spider, with a leg span wider than a dinner plate/Insects & Arachnids

The Goliath birdeater (Theraphosa blondi) is the world's heaviest spider and can weigh as much as a baseball. Despite its name, it rarely eats birds, preferring earthworms and insects. When threatened, it rubs its legs together to fling urticating hairs that irritate predators. Its fangs are long enough to puncture a mouse skull.
