A deep-sea shark with a spring-loaded jaw/Marine Life
The goblin shark (Mitsukurina owstoni) is a rare deep-sea shark often called a 'living fossil' because its lineage dates back about 125 million years. Adults reach about 3 to 4 meters in length and weigh roughly 200 kg. Its most distinctive feature is a long, flat, blade-like snout packed with electroreceptors, and jaws that can project forward dramatically to snatch prey. Found at depths of 200 to 1,300 meters worldwide, it is one of the least-studied shark species.
