Escalator Step

A single grooved tread in the endless moving staircase/Everyday Objects

Each escalator step is a die-cast aluminum tread riding on a chain loop driven by an electric motor. The grooved (cleated) surface interlocks with the comb plate at each landing to prevent objects from getting caught. A typical escalator has 80 to 120 visible steps at any given time.
