Elgin Marbles Metope

A carved marble panel from the Parthenon frieze/Art & Sculpture

The Elgin Marbles are a collection of classical Greek marble sculptures from the Parthenon in Athens, removed by Lord Elgin between 1801 and 1812. The metopes are nearly square relief panels that originally decorated the exterior of the temple. Each depicts a scene from Greek mythology, most commonly the battle between Lapiths and Centaurs.
