Elbrus

Europe's highest peak, a dormant volcano in the Caucasus/Mountains

Mount Elbrus in southern Russia is a dormant stratovolcano with twin summits, the western one reaching 5,642 meters. Whether it counts as Europe's highest peak depends on where you draw the Europe-Asia boundary, but most mountaineering lists include it. A cable car system goes partway up, making the early stages of the ascent surprisingly civilized before the weather tries to kill you higher up.
