Durian

The 'king of fruits' so pungent it is banned on public transport in Southeast Asia/Food & Drinks

The durian (Durio zibethinus) is a large, spiny tropical fruit from Southeast Asia known for its overwhelmingly powerful smell, which has been compared to rotting onions, turpentine, and raw sewage. The odor is so intense that durians are banned on many forms of public transportation, in hotels, and in airports across Singapore, Thailand, and other Southeast Asian countries. Despite the smell, the custard-like flesh is considered a delicacy by many, with a complex sweet flavor. The fruit's husk is covered in sharp, thorn-like spines. Durians can fall from heights of 20 meters or more, and falling durians cause several injuries each year.
